50 cent-before i self destruct

Release date: November 9, 2009

Genre: Hip hop

Length:
57:23

Label: Aftermath, Interscope, Shady, G-unit

Six years after the release of his best album, 50 Cent is still doing or trying to do his thing. Finally realizing that he is dying in the Hip Hop world, he decided to name his latest album Before I Self Destruct. 50 has been here for years, whether you're a hater or a fan, you've got to admit that he brought a new style in Hip Hop as well as some classic tracks. Not classic in how they sound or anything, but “classic” meaning you can ask anyone if they know this song and 100% will answer you “yes.” But back to our topic, Fiddy just released Before I Self Destruct. Now whether you believe it or not, this album is going to finish 50's rap career. Indeed, he isn't the same anymore. His singles won't pick up so they had to push the album, and the first week sales were pretty low. Still, let's see if the album is made of good music or pure trash that is killing hip hop.

The album starts with The Invitation. The beat is pretty good, but when 50 starts spitting, I can't fully understand what he's saying. It's like he's trying too hard to go back to the time of Get Rich Or Die Trying when he had the thug image. Now, his voice sounds fake like he forced himself to sound gangster. I wouldn't put that in my mp3

On Then Days Went By, the beat is mad dope, but why did 50 had to fuck it up like this. This beat sound like it would be dope with any rapper but I don't know what happened - 50 used a big ass weird voice that ruined the song.

Death To My Enemies is a completely new sound from Dr. Dre, I never would have expected something like this. Usually, Dre uses the same drums and piano. This may not be his best beat but it's totally different coming from him. But again I can't feel 50.

Out of the first four songs, So Disrespectful is probably the best one. The chorus is really basic stuff but 50 killed the verses, dissing someone on each verse – The Game on the first verse, Young Buck on the second, and his Baby Mama on the third. What made this good is that he was talking about shit he really lived or felt, not that fake thug image he gives us.

Everybody thought that Psycho (featuring Eminem) would be the dopest song of the year but no, it's not really a good song! Basic beat from Dr. Dre, basic rap from 50, and horrible accent from Eminem. I thought Em would bring something good to this song but his accent just made it worse.

Hold Me Down sounds like a recycled track, like I already heard a song with the same pattern. Anyways, NEXT!

Crime Wave is not a bad ganster song from 50 but his lyrics are so basic. I mean anybody can write those lines, he better get himself a ghostwriter or something. The chorus is also basic, screaming "Who” and “Yeah."

Stretch sounds like an old 50 Cent song from back in the day, like it could've been on Get Rich Or Die Trying or the first G-Unit album. It's a good song - dope beat, dope flow. Nice one 50!

Strong Enough's beat featured pretty basic sampling. And 50 was just a voice over a beat. I didn't really feel this one.

On to Get It Hot. Is this is supposed to be "I Get Money" part 2? Big bass, big snare/clap, big kick. This was just the commercial 50 that everybody knows nowadays. I wonder what he's thinking when he's in the studio, writing this chorus:

"Get it get it get it hot hot hot hot hot
Get it get it get it hot hot hot hot hot
Get it get it get it hot "

A horny teenager can write this chorus! And people say 50 is the best hook writer. Damn, people have gone crazy.

Gangsta's Delight
has a dope beat - a little dark, a little gangster - but it becomes annoying after a while. I got nothing to say on 50 for this song.

On Before I Self Destruct, the beats are dope and all but by the time we get I Got Swag, they're just annoying because they mostly sound the same yet every track is from a different producer. Now imagine, 50 Cent calls the producers, says “I want a beat.” Now the producers think, “OK what kind of beat will 50 use?” And then they all produce the same type of beat because they don't hear the beats of the other producers. So at the end you get a full Hardcore-Gangster-Rap-only album and that sucks.

50 asks all the women in the world to be Baby Mamas on Baby By Me (featuring Ne-Yo). Ne-Yo destroys the chorus but this should have a NE-YO SONG! 50 isn't a good rap/singer, his voice is too hard. I didn't like this track.

Do You Think About Me
(featuring Governor) is the album's smooth/relaxing track. I actually prefer 50's verse to the chorus in this one because Governor was exaggerating with his “Just a little bit.” Yet, the way they took the sample – I think – to make the chorus was hella crazy! Love it.

OK, You're Right is a waste of a crazy dope Dr. Dre beat. Not that this song is that bad, but it could've been 100 times better even with 50 on it. But 50 just fucks it,with basic rhymes easy as shit. A,B,C,D lyrics. C'mon 50! And again, easy basic chorus: "ok alright, ok you're right." And the clown in the video... I mean the shit looks like it was filmed with a home camera.

Could've Been You is another sweet love song featuring ft R. Kelly. I don't like the beat of this one, so of course I can't like the song because if a 50 beat suck, then the whole song sucks.

All I can say about this album is that it's dejà vu. It's all the same crap again from 50. The commercial songs, the gangster ones, the love ones. Lyrics are basic as hell. Beats - yeah some of them are dope. I give this album an 5/10. Sorry, it just doesn't cut it as a good Hip Hop album and why did they take out "Get Up?" It was one of his best singles... Wrong move by Interscope dropping this album. I hope this is his last one!
