Nowadays, Will Smith is considered an icon in the movie industry, but no one can forget his rapping days. For this month's Blast From The Past, I'm going back to his first solo album, Big Willie Style, which spanned four hit singles. This album was the bomb back then, and still is for people who listen to good music.

The album starts with a track called Intro. It's a fake interview where a journalist asks Will about his music.

Will doesn't disappoint on the mic in the first song, Y'all Know. The beat was tight, sick, whatever you wanna call it – it just felt right.

The second single, Gettin' Jiggy Wit It goes straight to the classic dance. Although this dance seemed less complicated than Soulja Boy's “Superman” dance, it's a lot harder when you actually try to do it. Still, this dance is not only fresher than Soulja Boy's, it's also timeless. Everyone knows this song. The flow is just perfect, the chorus is great, and the hook is also great.

Candy is the old-school party song, the ladies' song. The flow is slow but great, it keeps you moving from side to side.

Chasing Forever starts with a piano melody. Once again, the beat is slow and perfect – just smooth. Will really knew how to use the mic, his flow was tight.

Don't Say Nothin'
has that old-school rap sound, not the gangster sound, just cool like Naughty By Nature's “Hip Hop Hooray.” The beat had a dark, high-pitched, repeating piano note.

Another classic follows Don't Say Nothin' – the fourth single, Miami. This a riding-under-the-sun song as well as a club song. Even though the topic is the same as in songs today, Miami is simply fresher, nothing can compare to it. You can't skip this song when it comes up in your MP3 player.

The ninth track is Yes Yes Y'All featuring Camp Lo. It's a very flowing song with a serious and tight beat.

I Loved You is another song for the ladies. The chorus was pretty generic but the verses were tight.

The third single, Just The Two Of Us, is probably the most important song on the album. In it, Will Smith expresses his feelings toward his son. This song is very deep, and the lyrics are well placed. Another classic.

The fifteenth track is Big Willie Style featuring deceased rapper Left Eye. This is the old gangster beat, just cool and relax, not the commercial stuff you hear today.

Last but not least is the album's first single, Men In Black from the movie of the same name. You can't get tired of this song. It's another one of his classics.

Other tracks include It's All Good and three interludes all titled Keith B-Real.

Even though, Will Smith left the rap game, he is still a legendary part of hip hop. And even though, Nas wrote a lot of tracks on this album, it's still all good. You can't hate an album with so many classics; from the party song, to more serious stuff, Big Willie Style has it all.
