If you could rock with any dead musician, who would you choose?
October 7th 2006 00:08
Ok..are you a serious music fan? Do you know the difference between unplugged and the electricity going out? Do you know what you really like and are you a snob about other 'lesser' groups or acts? Where is the line and who is crossing it? Are new acts truly talented today or produced?
Only one rule on this blog, know your shit or don't comment. I told you, I am a snob, if you leave a comment telling me how much you love Britney Spears, I cannot guarantee your 'safety' on this blog but hey, you are entitled to your opinion. Come back and talk to me in ten years about how upset you are over the sound of crickets chirping at the announcement of her "I'm Done Having Kids" tour.

I do feel similarly about Layne...I would love to hear his take on all kinds of delicious tidbits...Britney Spears, for one. Her music, I mean. Oh, that would be loads of fun for me!

Would love to hang out with John Lennon but on the basis that I have no musical talent (to the point of not even being able to whistle) I don't think we'd do much rocking.

I am also not musically inclined at all, which makes me appreciate good music all the more.
I have a dream to someday be in the presence of Jerry Cantrell, lyricist for Alice in Chains, like a fly on the wall and watch him write. Very erotic thought to me.

Hey, dead musicians I'd love to rock with...Ok, here we go. Hold on to your hats!!!
Garcia, Hendrix, Harrison, Preston, Joplin, (Duane) Allman, Charles, Davis, Ray Vaughn, Mercury, Lennon, Ellington, Parker, Croce, Fitzgerald, Barrett, Moon, Mingus, Zappa, Pastorius, Armstrong, Gibb, Marley, the list is endless.
Pete Townsend once said, "How depressing is that? My life is full of dead people. They're my friends, they're dead! They might be your effing icons, but they're my effing friends! They're dead!"
Yep. A lot of benign stuff lurks in my head.

You mentioned you had some blogs and I would love to read them but since you come up as Anon, I can't see which ones are yours...do login everytime so that your great posts can point the way to additional brilliance, please. Its a strange little quirk of Orble to drop your login when you switch a page sometimes, just click login again at the top of the page and it will let you post with credit.
Thank you on the quip about my quip about spears. I do feel sorry for the girl...but then again, I don't really care. No more space devoted to her...every mention may risk leading someone on this blog who are beautifully immersed in music to think she is an actual musician, do a search on her name and instantly lose ten points in IQ.

No guesses for me:
Joplin, Joplin, Joplin.
And Keith Moon.
And can I bring a little of the classics into it:
Beethoven, Chopin and Bach. My three all time faves to play. Geniuses, all three of them. Also Satie and Delibes. And Debussy... ooh, so many. Mozart. Dvorak, Tchaikovsky. Scarlatti.
Voices, I would love to see how all the classics respond to rock. After all, these guys were the rock stars of their own time. How fascinating would it be to see Beethoven composing a song for Audioslave? I'm sorry, I can't help myself drifting off into the possibilities... I will try to compose myself in future. (yes, it was a bad pun...)

This is your assignment. You are to figure out how Bach would have tranlated Layne Staley's pain into classical music. You must find as close a comparison as you can, and let me know what it is. I will immediately buy it and listen to see if I agree.
Can you imagine if I got my teaching license in music appreciation? Oh, the complaints. The possiblities....but dear lord, the complaints from parents.

May I say that I am unaccustomed to your brief responses. I wonder if I have made you angry somewhere down the line.

*smiling* Then tease away...that's all I needed to know...well, that...and who you are and who you know and where you live and.... oh wait...we have been down this road, haven't we? Sorry about that...unless, of course, you would like to tell me those things...

Point taken. Of course, it's been taken before and I have conveniently forgotten again...and to be honest, that will happen this time, too. But hey, at least you know that up front, right?
As for interesting topics, I will do that.

No, I didn't...of course, it's only been a few hours. lol I will do that though. I am a complete imbecil when it comes to classical music...and it will be fun to learn something about it...
Thanks for the tip,
