Muzik Mafia's Halloween Chop Shop: Create Your Own Band
October 25th 2006 02:43
Oh, come play with me, this is going to be fun!!
Who would be the ultimate group/band? You may choose from the living or dead. You may even make one person out of two rockers, a sort of wicked chop shop. Do what you will, you are the official god of rock.
Include as many people as you want in this group, but you have to list their role in the group and who they are currently with, if applicable and what the name of the new group would be. Come on...invoke the spirit of Dr. Frankenstein and get chopping...
My personal supergroup, NEVER GONNA MAKE IT, would include:
Layne Staley, formerly of Alice in Chains: Lead vocals, lyrics
Amy Lee, Evanescence: Vocals, lyrics
Jerry Cantrell, Alice in Chains: Guitar, lyrics
LethalPiano: Piano -(To make up for my obsessive references to AIC, I haven't heard her play yet so this one is in faith.)
Kelly Clarkson: Backup vocals
Rick Allen, Def Leppard: Drums
David Lee Roth: Guitar
OH! and one back up dancer with the boobs of Pamela Anderson and the lower half of Lenny Kravitz. (I was running out of room on the stage between the people and the egos...I had to condense.)
Can you imagine? What would they sing about other than death, mental disorders and drug abuse? It would be PERFECT.
(It's late and I reserve the right to create a different group or make changes at a later time.)

Bugger it, you keep doing this to me! It's like you're teasing me for your own twisted pleasure! But, like a sucker, I'll oblige.
Male singers: John Farnham; solo, Jimmy Barnes, Cold Chisel and solo, Joe Williams, currently solo but formally of TOTO, Bobby Kimball, formally and currenty with TOTO, the great Satchmo.
Female singers: Janis, Cindy, Tina and Katie Melua (Katie's a UK solo artist), Ella Fitzgerald, many jazz outfits and solo.
Guitar: Steve Lukather (TOTO), Joe Walsh, Eagles, Blind Willie McTell, solo, one of Dylan's muses.
Bass: Joe Calzone; Calzone Cases , Timothy B. Schmidt (also vocals) Eagles, David Venz, friend of mine and Verdine White, E,W&F.
Rhythm guitar: Me and Marc Mann (ELO, T.P & the Heartbreakers).
Keys: Me, George Duke (solo), one of the two non-cursed keyboardists from The Dead: Bruce Hornsby, and Billy Preston.
Backup vocals, male and female: My friends, whom you don't know. Oh, and you.
Horns: Once again, people you don't know. Exept for Miles, the Brecker brothers (jammed with them) and Branford Marsalis (jammed with him, too) and me on sax. Preferrably on a Kielwerth (spelling???) or Yanagisawa tenor.
Drummers/Percussionists: Crystal Talifero (Billy Joel) Lenny Castro (TOTO) David Spotswood, lifetime friend, Simon Phillips (present TOTO) Jeff Porcaro (Past TOTO) and of course, Kieth Moon (Who).
Enough for you??? Pleeze comment on those whom you don't know.

I am going to write extensively later but I did want to apologize for the female reference, I sort of had you pegged as a Tori Amos/Alicia Keyes angel. No idea why.
Be back later to comment further...so come back,

Awesome. That would be a kickass band. What would be their first release? What would be the subject matter?

on the name. Don't you think Copesetic is a kick ass name??

It will be a song about everybody loving you, but yet they don't even have a clue who you really are.
They love the image and the legend, but not you.

I wasn't surprised by the name...I have heard it before...somewhere.
I like the song...it sounds like one I would love to listen to again and again...on a loop.
Congrats...ever think about getting into music, in some capacity? You know, I have a friend who would absolutely kickass at music. Probably what she has been called to do with her life. Unfortunately, she limits herself according to her inability to break free of the grasp of certain demons...isn't that sad? Think of what music is missing out on because of that. Side tangient...sorry about that.

have friends) anyway, she is very encouraging for me to do something with this. But what
would your friend kick ass at in music? Very cool that you would listen to it again and again.
I like that "again and again" thing. That would probably be another song on the cd.

Alright...let's address one thing very quickly. I am a sadistic bitch, hence the mafia, but I would never tease anyone..I am far too easy for that. I KID I JOKE I TEASE...well, god, I can't stop, can I??
Now, onto the music..
Can I just say that the volume of names you listed is overwhelming a bit? I like to think of myself as a music snob but I am only a bit uppity when compared to what you know. I knew far LESS of those names than vice versa. Ella, Eagles, TOTO, Janis, Tina, Cindy, got them...and a few others. Just start at the top, aside from the ones I have listed and teach me, Sinsai. You can PM me if you would rather...but I would love to put your knowledge on display here. It sounds like we can all learn a thing or two...
I am flabbergasted at your knowledge, I really am. Let me ask this...how long have you been in the music industry? In any capacity. I am not asking you anything more than that...I am just wondering how long it is going to take me to learn the amount of knowledge you have in your pinky.
Come back,

Ok, so John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes are Australian. Voices that could cut glass, showmen, talented but that's about it.
Katie Melua is an up-and-comer from the UK. Sweet jazz sound, will get truckloads better with maturity, but still worth a listen.
George Duke, jazz pianist from the States. Was quiet for a lot of years but his first solo effort in around twenty years, After Hours, the name of the album is, complete and utter gem.
Verdine White, the naturally gifted and high on life bassist from Earth, Wind and Fire. The energy this man possesses is nothing short of supernatural. Check out EW&F/Chicago Live at the Greek in 2004 then you'll get my drift.
Miles Davis, enduring solo and combo jazz trumpet. Haunting. Both his music, and his life.
Randy and Michael Brecker, brilliant (younger) jazz horn players.
Winton and Branford Marsalis see above.
And I have to succumb to another of your questions...I've been in the music industry full time since 1999. "Turned Pro", I guess you could say.
Howzat?

The band would be called Ghostbusters vs The Holy Spirit and would include:
Lead Vocals, Lyrics: Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr Bungle, Fantomas, Tomahawk, etc.): This guy is classically trained and can sing just about anything from opera to death metal. He's an incredibly busy man, but he loves collaborating so I'm sure he'd join my band anytime. Plus he’s a consummate entertainer.
Lead Vocals, Lyrics: Bjork: The Scandinavian ice-queen is completely out of her tree, which would get her in my band from the start, but she also has awesome range and a good ear for interesting composition. She’s already worked with Mike Patton, so I’m sure they could duet beautifully.
Lead Guitar: Roland S Howard (The Birthday Party, Crime and the City Solution): This guy does the spindly, high-pitched, creepy blues lead like no other. I’d force him to keep his finger up the high end of the guitar neck and give us some trebley abrasiveness.
2nd Lead Guitar: Steve Albini (Big Black, Rapeman, Shellac): Steve has a slice ‘n’ dice style that sounds like his guitar is strung with rusty razor wire. I don’t think he’s ever played in a band where he wasn’t singing, so if he shuts his trap in my band I think he could come up with some interesting high end interplay with Roland S Howard as well as filling out some of the mid-range.
Keyboard, Piano, Vocals, Lyrics: Tom Waits: The guy’s more known for his piano, but he’s also up for experimentation, so give the old bugger a keyboard and let him trigger samples and stuff. Actually, this might be such a good idea I’m going to take him out of the band because I feel this new lease on his creativity will be stifled in the confines of a band structure.
Rhythm Guitar, Vocals, Lyrics: Buzz Osbourne (Melvins, Fantomas): Buzz is all sludgey meat and power and could fill out the low end well with lots of fuzz and distortion. It’d be like having Tony Iommi but at half the price, and he’s already in Fantomas with Patton so they’d get along well.
Bass, Vocals, Lyrics: Rob Wright (Nomeansno, Hanson Brothers): From the only band who could do a convincing cover of both Miles Davis and the Ramones (on the same record). Rob can play technically dazzling, prog and jazz as well as simple and powerful punky stuff. The guy’s got a great deep holler on him too and could do some hearty punk rock backing vocals.
Drums: Dale Crover (Melvins, Nirvana): Dale just pounds and pounds. He could trade-off beats with Dave Lombardo (Fantomas, Slayer), and the duel drumming would probably be appreciated by Roland S. Howard (make him reminisce about the Birthday Party’s wild double-drum days).
Damn, I forgot about all the other instruments I could include. I’d like some horns in there, and a bass clarinet, and cellos: I love cellos. This could end up being an orchestra. Perhaps Tom could just sample them on his new-fangled keyboard. OK, he’s back in the band. Plus, he was beatboxing on his last album, so he could do some weird vocal trade-offs with Patton and Bjork.
