MUZIKAL MAFIA's Spotlight Artist of the Month: JONNY LANG
November 1st 2006 17:41
Have you ever seen a man's soul lain bare on an alter or heard God speak directly to a man and bring him to his knees? Have you ever heard the voice of an angel?
Jonny Lang's new CD, 'Turn Around', is available in stores now. For fans of previous work, this is a different Jonny than you will be used to. Apparently, this young man has been through some rough times since he burst into the music scene at the age of 15, with his grammy nominated, ‘Lie to Me’. Whatever he has gone through, he is now grateful for his salvation from what he called a very dark time in his life, in several places on, 'Turn Around.'
Another treat for fans is the guest lead spot in the vocals on 'Just a Man'. None other than Jonny's beautiful wife, Haylie. This is what I refer to as the cold chills spot of the CD. The raw emotion that emanates from Jonny is gut wrenching and thought provoking enough but add Haylie's powerfully pure soprano, reminiscent of Alison Krauss on her best day, it is enough to bring tears to your eyes.
I am not a religious person, but this album has touched me. Take a moment, buy the CD, listen for yourself and listen to it alone. This becomes an intense, private moment...it's just you and Jonny, a guitar and his freedom from pain, your happiness for him and maybe just a bit of a desire to have it in your own life.
I have personally handed headphones to five people today to make them listen to ‘Just a Man.’ All five people cried and started a spiritually deep conversation with me. I stopped letting people listen to it at work. It’s entirely possible I may be fired tomorrow, but it is absolutely worth it.
Jonny is one of those Artists that I love. He opened up doors and let us come in to spend a little time getting to know him on a deep level.
After hearing his CD, ‘Lie to Me’, just last week, I immediately went out and tried to find more of his work. I picked up the last CD of ‘Turn Around’ in stock.
It was a bit strange listening to the new CD at first. I went from listening to a 15 year old, skinny, little white boy with the voice of a 40 year old blues veteran to listening to a man, now in his mid-twenties, sounding more like a 15 year old, at times.
The vulnerability that comes through on this album, the fear of old demons, and the gratitude for a new life through faith is mind blowing and spiritually healing.
Buy ‘Turn Around’ by Jonny Lang TODAY.
You won’t regret it. While you are at it, check out the rest of his site for tour dates, sound clips and store. There is also a link to help spread the word about Jonny.
Do you have a favorite Jonny Lang song or CD? Have you seen him in concert? Know any interesting tidbits that you want to share? By all means...
